Experimental MineralLabel 5.0 Installation for Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows XP.
Notice: This installation system is experimental. It cannot harm your computer in any way, but it may not work on all systems. If it doesn't work, no harm done. If it does work, MineralLabel will now be available for these operating systems. OsoSoft offers no guarantees whatever for the suitability of this program for your needs, or that it will work with all printers, but I do guarantee that if you carefully follow the instructions below, no harm can come to your system. Background: MineralLabel was written for Windows 3.1. I've stopped programming, and will not update this program any further. However, it has continued to work in all versions of Windows, and should continue to do so. Sadly, the original installation system for the program is incompatible with some versions of Windows and some previously-installed software. So, I've come up with an alternative installation method for these later versions of Windows. You're welcome to try it out, and I'd appreciate it if you let me know how it worked and what version of Windows you are using. Instructions NOTE!: If you have already installed MineralLabel, using the previous version, you need not delete the previously installed files. This experimental version will be installed in a new, different directory. 1. Download the Manual for the program. Do not use the installation instructions in this manual, but use it for operational information on the program only.
2. Download the ml4xp.exe installation software. Be sure to note what directory is specified when you download it. Select the Save to Disk option.
Installation Note: This installation process assumes a good knowledge of your version of Windows and the use of the Windows Explorer program. If you are uncomfortable with the instructions, please get assistance with this installation process. 3. Once the download is complete, open Windows Explorer and locate ml4xp.exe on your hard disk, in the directory or folder shown or selected during the download. (To open Windows Explorer, right click the Start button, then select Explore.) 4. Double click the ml4xp.exe icon in Windows Explorer. This will install the program files in a new C:\ml4xp directory, which it will create on your hard disk. 5. Back in Windows Explorer, click the new C:\ml4xp directory created in step 4. (Note: You may have to click the C: disk icon again to refresh the display.) 6. In that directory, locate the file minlabel.exe. Right click and hold on the file, then drag it to the Windows Desktop or to the Windows Desktop folder in Windows Explorer. Release the right mouse button and select Create Shortcut here in the popup menu. That completes the installation process. To run MineralLabel, just double-click on the desktop icon for the program. See the downloaded manual for operating instructions. |
